In the MySpace days and young teens, I had an obsession with YouTubing for acoustic cover songs. I’d do it for hours. Somehow I found myself in the very depths of YT, came across a cute little blonde kid that sang Brian McKnight’s song Start Back at 1 and I was blown away with his cuteness and his ability to smash these runs with such swag for a kid. Not much for plays then, around 200 or so. Watched a couple more... Alicia keys cover...etc. It just stuck somehow. A year or so later I was just 16 or 17 working as a Mcd’s cook, and I hear on the radio a voice say “Baby, baby, baby...” I said everyone stop what you’re doing turn this shit up NOW. I was like there is no way... that voice... it can’t be the same kid from ID-get. No way.... he was nobody on ID-get... but I know that voice anywhere. Now he’s on the biggest radio station in my state. I looked it up immediately, and sure as shit... Justin Bieber is this child superstar. Scooter discovered him the same way I did months later, and Usher listened to these small time videos deep into YT land as well. I’ll always have a special place in my heart for JB. I’ve rooted for him since before the numbers or the fame. And the fact Scooter and Usher discovered the same artist I saw the same potential in not long before them... is just a very humbling cool feeling. He was born talented. I saw the proof first hand. Let it inspire you to get out there and be heard for your talent whatever it may be. It’s a cool and special thing for me to see Justin in particular on this journey to greatness after knowing and in a small way being part of the very very beginning of the beginning of the rest of his life. Go off, JB. Congratulations.
